Cook Attendant

So. Westchester County Residential Program seeks part-time cook to prepare and serve meals for adolescents in a group-home type environment. NYS certification for food handler and preparation necessary for position. The cook is responsible for the overall management of the kitchen which includes providing nutritional daily meals in an organized environment and supervision and implementation of sanitary standards, food preparation and delivery systems. The cook will prepare and cooks meals in accordance with NYC Dept. of Health and NYS OCFS requirements. Maintain cleanliness and safety in all areas of food handling, appliances, storage of supplies and cooking utensils space.

Cook attendant will at times have to be utilized as coverage in facility.

Candidate must be able to:

  • Develop healthy menus in conjunction with Program Director, and nutritional standards.
  • Work within a budget, to purchase for and maintain a pantry.
  • Determine food supply needs and communicate with administration regarding needed supplies.
  • Prepare appropriate meals (lunch/dinner) with assistance of selected residents when appropriate.
  • Supervise residents and provide a safe teaching environment.
  • Maintain a sanitary work place and food preparation equipment.
  • Provide support to residential staff around safe food handling, storage and preparation issues.
  • Maintain in force an applied Food Handlerís Certificate. Safe-Serve certification required.
  • Prepares and purchases food based on menu.
  • Prepare meals daily for residents (up to 12 residents) and record menu substitutions.
  • Prepares holiday meals for residents and families.
  • Monitors amount of food consumed by residents and maintain proper nutritional standards.

Requirements:

  • NY State food handling and service requirements. (Safe-Serve)
  • NY State Driving privileges and license or eligibility.
  • TCI Training/Certification preferred.

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all direct care worker and standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to hands-on care with consumers, climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift and move consumers (if necessary) up to 200 lbs, ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30 lbs.. Physical and PPD clearances required and reevaluated annually.

The Youth Shelter Program of Westchester operates the County's only community-based residential alternative to incarceration for youth offenders who are facing charges in the county's adult criminal justice system.

We provide educational, clinical (group, family and individual) services and vocational resources, as well as a robust cultural enhancement program. We offer intensive re-entry and aftercare services tailored for each young person as well as family support.

Job Description:

Seeking experienced residential counselors for community-based program for at-risk youth in Lower Westchester County area. Our pre-adjudication program offers rehabilitation and re-entry opportunities to young men who have been charged with offenses in Westchester County courts. Our youth are court-referred and thus highly motivated to succeed. Counselors should consider themselves role models in word and deed. We offer a highly structured environment which promotes principles of positive youth development and community justice. We operate an alternative educational and a vocational training program. Emphasis is placed on character-building and social development.

Successful candidates will have some experience working in residential environments, an ability to work effectively with at-risk youth and a commitment to our mission and vision.

We seek motivated individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of our youth.

Weekend availability is required. Counselors work alternate weekends and some evenings.

Valid NYS Driver License is Required
TCI Training Preferred
